Colonet

Jason Knichel, Eugene Marinelli, Greg Tress, Rich Hong, and Evan Mullinix.

Using the ColoNet system, the Colony can be assigned tasks or directly controlled from any internet-connected computer. A computer in the vicinity of the Colony, acting as a server, broadcasts instructions and receives data via the Colony wireless network. An in-browser client application allows users to view the status of the Colony and send commands. The data is relayed to clients anywhere in the world over the Internet.

Using the intuitive Java applet, users can control individual robots or the Colony as a whole. The applet automatically keeps track of battery levels, the status of the robots' wireless network, environmental sensor readings, and the locations of the robots themselves. This is combined with a real-time webcam view of the Colony. In addition, users can request cooperative tasks for the robots to perform. Multiple users can send task requests and monitor the status of the Colony simultaneously.
