Pizza night

11/9/01

This Monday night at 6 PM is Pizza night, come one, come all, eat, talk, and be merry!

Website and Diff drives

10/28/01

The website has finally been updated, and Aaron has fixed it so we now have no quota on our webspace. In other news, we built a working diff drive last week, and now have something to program!

SURG Proposals due on October 24th!

10/10/01

Two weeks from today SURG proposals are due to Janet Stocks. SURG is robotics club's main source of funding for projects, and we urge every project leader to send in a proposal. I made a SURG info page with some old proposals on it for anyone who wants to find out more or look at examples of past grants.

Ideas/Taco night

09-24-01

This Monday, September 24th, at 6 PM Robotics club will be holding its first ever ideas/taco night. Come eat homemade tacos and talk about turning your ideas into Robots. We will be meeting in the Robotics club room - directions can be found here.

New Web address

09-19-01

We just registered www.roboticsclub.org for our new website, it'll certainly be a lot easier to direct people to the website now. But most importantly, its pretty darn cool.

First meeting

09-10-01

Our first meeting will be on Monday, 5 PM in Wean 5409. We will give a brief overview of the club, talk about some of the projects for this year, and afterwards we'll drop by the club room and show everyone around.

Activities Fair

09-07-01

Be sure to check us out at this year's activities fair. We'll be showing off the past year's robots, answering questions, and announcing our first meeting. We may even convince club alumnus Jonathan Hurst to walk around in a Robot Frank suit.

Brand New Year

08-27-01

Its the start of an exciting new year at Robotics club. We acquired lots of resources and workspace last year through Simon's donation, a large room assignment, and members who put in lots of hours to build workbenches and set up a machine shop. Now we're set to attract lots of new members, and put those resources to work building robots!

Meeting of the Minds

05-09-01

Seven robotics club projects presented at this year's meeting of the minds - probably the largest number of club projects ever to present in one year. The Wean Hall Walker, ANS Rover ("Mr. T"), AAAI Diff drives, hovercraft ("the Flying Ginsu"), the Autonomous submarine, and two mobots all made appearances. Thank you to all participants for helping to make this a banner year for Robotics club!

Lego Competition, part II

04-29-01

The LEGO competition was a great success, with seven teams from five schools competing. All of the entrants presented creative solutions, and three teams completed stage II of the three stage competition, a very impressive feat on the part of those teams. As the competition went well, Robotics club and CISSRS will certainly be hosting the competition in Pittsburgh again next year, and hopefully annually from now on. For full competition results go here.

Lego Competition

03-20-01

Robotics Club is proudly sponsoring a CISSRS Lego competition and is inviting teams of students from local high schools to compete. The competition takes place from April 26th-29th. More information can be found on the Lego competition mainpage. Please contact us if you are interested in competing.

Second Semester

02-24-01

The Robotics Club has expanded a bit into the PRB highbay. There are several workbenches, a couch, a huge shelving unit, and many boxes of stuff out there now. Simon's donation includes two robot arms, a replica of an antique computer vision platform, gears, motors, vintage computer equipment, and countless other useful pieces. Hans Moravec donated the original vision platforms that Simon's replica is based on. We have spent some time organizing everything so it is on shelves and accessible.

There are several projects underway, and things are progressing smoothly.
