2004
T-Shirt Competition
1/25/04
This year, we've decided to look to the masses for the design for this year's t-shirt. The artist behind the winning design will win $50 and one of the finished t-shirts! Anyone here at CMU is eligible to enter -- simply send your design to kkillfoi@andrew.cmu.edu. Vector graphics files such as PDFs or EPSs are preferable, but we will accept other common formats.
Mobot Open House
1/25/04
For those of you who are planning on competing in Mobot, the Open House is a great place to learn the details of the competition. If you missed the first one, you should definitely come to this one. Remember to mark your calendars, or your notebooks, or the backs of your hands for Wednesday, Feb. 9th at 6:00PM in NSH 3305.
Mobot News Flash
11/11/04
Since many people have been asking, and not much has been done, Roboclub has agreed to shoulder some of the responsibility of helping Mobot out this year. So for those of you who are interested, come to the Open House, there will be discussion, clips of robots, presentations, and who knows what else!
Club Status Update
10/26/04
A few major improvements to the club have been implemented over the mid-semester break. The PRB room was cleaned up, and the card-reader reactivated, making it once more a usable workspace. Furthermore, the fridge was finally restocked with much candy and soda, making the trailer a much more usable workspace. The next time you come down to the club, make sure to bring plenty of robots and quarters, for optimal robo-building efficiency.
Roboclub WIKI Outage
10/10/04
Due to maintenance being done by the CMU Computer Club, the Roboclub WIKI will be down for the next day or so. We anticipate it will be up and running again by Tuesday (10/12/04) or sooner.
First Project Meetings '04
09/27/04
With many new members expressing interest in our projects, we have scheduled the first project meetings of the year. A detailed schedule of the meetings will be emailed to members, and posted to the bboard later this week. Feel free to drop by not only for the projects you want to get involved with, but also the ones that you are interested in, but not sure about.
PRB Club Room Closed
09/27/04
As Red Team is redoing the PRB, access to the club room will be very limited, at best. We will be moving our base of operations to the trailer now, but hopefully we will be able to use the club room again sometime in the near future.
First Meeting '04
09/16/04
Our first meeting was today in WeH 7500. Turnout was encouraging; I am excited to get down to build robots after all this movement!
Moving Around
09/01/04
Red Team needs to take over the Highbay, so we are consolidating and moving some of our operations to Trailer B.
Security Upgrade
07/25/04
With recent Red Team traffic through the PRB, security concerns have been raised about robots in storage. To address these, a full camera system has been implemented to keep track of wandering robots and people in and around the club. Now members can rest easy knowing that the items they leave at the club are constantly being monitored.
Site Revamping
07/24/04
The entire site has been internally redone and standardized for easier editing. This means content will now be updated and added more frequently to the roboticsclub site.
The Little Things
02/23/04
For those of you who haven't stopped by lately, there has been a lot of change going on at the club. While our biggest endeavor, the complete rearrangement of the club, turned out quite successful, a number of other small improvements have also been taking place. The live webcam installed at the end of last month has been moved to a semi-permanent mounting. The website is slowly being renovated, with slightly more frequent news updates, new officers pics, and an aerial map to the club room. Now that the big changes are complete, we're working to fix all the small stuff.
Major Reconstruction
01/31/04
In case no one has noticed the robotics club has been going through some major renovations the past...oh...lets say since the last news update. We are sorry for the lack of updates to the web site. In order to better reorganize the club some jobs were neglected. We hope that this new year will bring with it a new and more active robot building year. Already many of the SURG projects have begun building and programming, especially the Mobot group. But remember it's not too late to join a project! The central goal of the robotics club is that no experience is ever necessary. Most people come in with no prior knowledge of electronics, programming, or mechanics. I hope to soon update the projects site so that people will find it easier to join a project. But for now the best way is to post to the Bboard.
